WELCOME TO

The Marie-Sklodowska-Curie funded GrindTrace project aims to advance our understanding of prehistoric grinding technology, a field that remains relatively unexplored within Aegean archaeology. By examining this technological sphere, the project aims to shed light on a fascinating yet lesser-known chapter of Greek prehistory: the transition from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age (end of the 5th – late 4th millennium BC).

By applying cutting-edge analytical methods to archaeological material from a series of Aegean prehistoric communities, the project seeks to address key questions regarding the production, use and maintenance of grinding tools, the activities and contexts in which they were employed, and how these relate to particular patterns of human behaviour and the broader social and economic transformations that mark the end of the Neolithic period.
